The taste of fine Italian artisan food will rejuvenate Collins Street’s west end retail precinct after Australia’s first Mercato Centrale opens in Melbourne’s landmark McPherson building later this year.
The Collins Street Mercato Centrale will feature at least 14 artisan vendors selling trapizzino street food, pasta, rice, salumi , a bakery, Italian wine store and la pizzeria. Ms Harding said there were a number of inquiries from multiple big box operators looking for space at that end of the city. “The rejuvenation of the western core from the multiple developments along Collins Street will offer lots of new retail opportunities,” she said.
simonjohanson I love the Mercato Centrale in Firenze, and always thought that the VIC market should incorporate something like that into their redevelopment. It’s good that we’re getting one here anyway, even if not associated with an actual market.
simonjohanson Makes a change from Anglo foodhalls on my land since they conquered us!
