Assault charges ?
Assault? False imprisonment?
That's fairly standard for sydney at night. The sun goes down and bunch of private gorillas emerge to take over. Either too stupid or with prohibitive criminal records to be cops, these thugs get away with this conduct every night.
Ummm why
Anyone who has gone out clubbing in Sydney for the past two decades wouldn't be surprised by this bullshit. Sydney security guards have the biggest power trip, they are overzealous, often racist and treat ordinary people like scum. In nanny state NSW, this isn't a surprise.
A spokesman for the bar association said it was well known the association did not believe in free speech. 'We like to charge at least $3 a minute,' he said,
What about the event manager? Did she apologise? It seems she may have been directing the security guards. Who employed her - the venue or the hirers? PaulBongiorno michaelkoziol AustBarAssoc
Maybe Mr Guy has “friends” in “the business”, or in “the family”, that know just what to do on these occasions. Malcolm would have course, heard nothing, which is par for the course. Perhaps a RC into Malcom’s previous occupation, the Law was debated?
When are charges going to be applied against these security guards for physically accosting a journalist on a public footpath... nswpolice MarkSpeakman GladysB auspol

ItsBouquet Private company 'security' thugs? ItsAssault.
He was eavesdropping
The real issue here is that a journalist was unlawfully detained, prevented going about his lawful business, on a puplic street, by individuals who are not constables or even special constables, lacking any authority to arrest. Elsewhere that has a name, it's called kidnap.
So a journalist ignores requests for respecting the privacy of a function, and workers tasked with ensuring this privacy are attacked by a major news outlet.
Didn’t take long for that Trumpism to hit our streets.
A bit late for we citizens to receive the full report of the evening’s events. Citizens of Sydney will become scared of going out at night for fear of being accosted by security guards.
“One guard and the event manager then played music from their phones so he was unable to hear what was being said by Turnbull.” Shame they didn’t do this in the first place. This is totally legitimate; physically restraining him was, as far as I can judge, an assault.
The individuals and their managers should be prosecuted , more of our quasi fascist state .
Yeah, an apology ain't gonna cut it.
Security guards should not see themselves as the equivalent of the Gestapo.
An apology is one thing, counselling for the goons involved is another. Michael Koziol deserves a Walkley for services to the fourth estate, truth and determination in the face of thuggery.
The guards need to be charged if this is as it reads.
