The ACCC said on Thursday the acquisition of Apollo would remove Tourism Holdings’ “closest and largest competitor” in motorised recreational vehicles rentals in Australia.ACCC commissioner Stephen Ridgeway said smaller rivals “lack the scale to replace the competition lost by Apollo being acquired”.
The ACCC is also examining the extent to which peer-to-peer platforms compete with traditional recreational vehicle rental suppliers. Peer-to-peer networks provide platforms for private owners to offer their rental vehicles for rent. The Trouchet family, which holds 53.4 per cent of Apollo, will end up with 13.4 per cent of the merged entity.
