JOHANNESBURG - Mining companies are again pleading for urgent intervention to fix the country's ports and railways. While there are logistical bottlenecks at ports, the slew of issues on the railway system are also adding to the headache.The Minerals Council says South Africa’s mineral exports fell in the first three months of this year to their lowest levels since the start of the COVID-19 lockdown.
Coal exports have dropped 20 percent from about 80 million tonnes in 2017 to about 64 million tonnes in 2021.Thungela Resources has flagged the costs associated with transporting its coal.
