Delta Air Lines pilots publishes an open letter to customers in a direct appeal to those who may be frustrated by flight delays and cancellations ahead of the summer travel season.

The pilots' spat with Delta comes as the pilots' union, the Air Line Pilots Association , seeks to negotiate a new contract with the Atlanta-based carrier. The pilots said they plan to picket Delta's upcoming shareholder meeting.

“It gives us no pleasure to tell management, ‘We told you so,’” Delta Capt. Jason Ambrosi, an ALPA leader, said in a release accompanying Thursday's letter. “Pilots are mission-oriented and want to deliver industry-leading operational performance. We’ve picked up record amounts of overtime to help Delta during the recovery.”

In a statement, Delta said: “All of our people, including our pilots, are working hard to restore our airline and deliver for our customers as we emerge from the pandemic. We are grateful for and proud of their efforts. It continued:"We continuously evaluate our staffing models and plan ahead so that we can recover quickly when unforeseen circumstances arise, and the resilience of the Delta people is unmatched in that regard. Pilot schedules remain in line with all requirements set by the FAA as well as those outlined in our pilot contract.

"These are excellent jobs, with a career value of $11 million," Darby said."It's hard to believe we have a shortage for an $11 million career, but due to short sightedness ... any solution is going to be three, four, five years away."

corporations are running this country into the ground

Delta just stop. We know it's not the pilots. It's your corporate greed.

My daughter had both her flights canceled on Delta this week. Of course there is no help from any staff. The company obviously does not care. A letter does not make this better. She had to find another flight on another airline to get home 4 days later.

NEVER BAILOUT THE AIRLINES WITH TAXPAYERS MONEY EVER AGAIN

Man these pilots are making a killing right now. Do you know how much a captain makes ? I can only imagine what that is with overtime.

Did you hear Powell try to score points about why a recession makes sense? Better make sure all the windows have real thick glass, cause this guy is struggling like it's 1929. Not one word about the pilots, oh yea!!

We're not mad at the pilots, we're mad at the company for offering flights, well in advance, that they know they can't staff.

Joe Biden and his decisions have broken everything

Quit over booking and get realistic about your capacity. Shouldn’t have let everyone go last year and bought your own stock. Taxpayers had to save your sorry ass yet again.
