“We will monitor the market closely for at least 24 hours and if we see normal market behaviour again, then we will formally lift the suspension,” Mr Westerman said. In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, AEMO said it was still having to manually direct power generators to be available to meet demand, and pointed to continuing “challenges” to manage supply and demand.

Since last week, AGL Energy and EnergyAustralia have been among generators that have brought coal power units back online after repairs.
