“Let's look at the industry as a whole,” Holden told Gothamist on Monday. “Are they protecting the interests of the horses, who, of course, we have to protect? They can't protect themselves. They can't speak.”The latest push came less than a week after a carriage horse named Ryder collapsed onto a Manhattan street on a hot summer evening, drawing a crowd of spectators. Police officers responding to the scene had to hose off the animal before getting it back to its feet.

Animals should always be cared for and used responsibly, however, 'protect' is strong arm language for beginning a path to eliminate an industry. Animals were created by God for use by humans, remember that and care for them, but don't assign human characteristics to animals.

That horse laid out on 9th Ave from heat exhaustion was not a good look. I'm no animal activist but anyone can see they're being treated poorly.

😐

The city could offer to exchange the horses for an outlandish electric buggy for each driver, and then put the horses out to pasture. For C’s sake this is 2022 not 1890🤬. This needs to stop now. Horrific. NYC NoMoreHorseandBuggy wtfu

No investigation. Just BAN those heartless animal abusing SOB thugs.

Too bad the crowd did not whip that man. Running a horse all damn day on hot asphalt & then overtime on a day when we had 105 heat index. This sickens me. Get the horses off the streets once and for all. This is disgusting behavior & animal cruelty. NYCMayor
