A woman who rented a car in Toronto said she was charged $8,000 after the company claimed she drove nearly the distance of the Earth's circumference in three days.

Vancouver woman Giovanna Boniface said she rented a car from Avis for three days after she travelled toShe said she drove the GMC Yukon Denali between the airport, downtown Toronto, and to Kitchener, where she visited with her mother-in-law.

"That's when I notice this charge for over $8,000 from Avis," Boniface told CTV News Toronto on Thursday. "The first thing I wanted to do was actually go back through security and just walk to the counter," she said. "But I wouldn’t have had time to do that because the security lines were really long.""It was just ringing and ringing and no one was answering,” she said. "It was really frustrating just trying to get to somebody."

She said she was disconnected twice while trying to speak with an Avis manager, and eventually had to board her flight.

Another great company....

'...days later, when media got involved, ...' Wish I had connections to the media every time I had a customer service dispute claim 🙄

This is unbelieveable nonsense. Avis what in the hell are you playing at?

I don’t do that in 3 years

24 hr X 100 kn/h X 3 days = 7200km Don't play with us 😏😏

Clearly false. Women can't drive.

Now do CRA

How many times are they going to post this!!

This is days old news that you guys have already posted many times. Seriously post some new news.

12,000km per day divided by 24 hours equals 500km per hour. She must have rented a fighter jet.

Shit, how many times are you guys going to post this

Waittttt didn’t this get posted last week

How many real stories do you miss when you keep repeating this one about a typo

CP running out of news story Let’s recycle stories

Same response I got when my gas bill for a month was $2,360. And it was summer. Average bill was in the $50 range a month. Customer service didn't believe me. Had to go through head office, took a pic of the meter and sent it to them. Meter reader error. 30 days to fix.

Was trying to hide it

So the lesson from this incident is DO NOT rent from Avis !

500 km/h she was really cooking eh

I will never rent again from Avis

Your reposting old news now? Lol

Well we all know that's actually impossible to do. This will be easily fixed

Carbon Tax.

Still she is in profit !!

She drove 500kms/hr non stop for 3 days!? Jesus get this woman in a NASCAR asap!

I guess reposting this article over and over again means its a slow news day. Maybe a few additional articles about the antisemite the liberal_party hired would be better news to write about

She looks pretty happy about it!!!

$1,000 is ridiculous. I will never rent from Avis.

You’ve shared this mundane news already

Yes we know that. Why again ? Did she pay you guys again to run the story ?

10200klm a day,Hmmmmmm

Is she wearing novelty glasses or goggles of some kind. Huge.

I want that car!

This is such a non-story -Avis makes a mistake -Woman notices and tries to get it fixed but is impatient -Karen cries to the media -Avis fixes mistake -Karen doesn't know how to handle simple situations

She should be charged with dangerous driving.

The pandemic was tough for car rental companies

How many times do you have to post this

You ran this story before in the week. Go back to the incessant covid reporting, please 🙏🏿

Boniface said she would have had to drive for 72 hours straight at approximately 500 km/h for this to be possible. It is also approximately the same distance as driving from Toronto to South Africa three times. 🤣

merry123459 Well lets hope she got a speeding ticket too 🙄 500 kilometres a hour if she didn’t stop for gas or restroom breaks an impressive feat

Impossible

Who rents a car that’s not unlimited KM? It’s not 1989. Is it asking for a friend.

It's impossible to do that.

You’d think Avis would at least give her a free weekend rental for the stress/anxiety they caused her. Or, not charge her for the one she had.

So she drove almost the whole circumference of the earth in 3 days…impressive, lol

Rental companies try to get away with some ridiculous charges sometimes. I had an incident with Thrifty where the counter guy hid the charges on the rental agreement and told me to sign, over charged me $450 which I disputed with my cc company and got it.

I don’t get how this mistake happened? I worked at a car rental and you made note of the Kms the day of rental and then the day it’s returned. Seems like an entry error by the employee.

Maybe she rented a privet jet

Obviously there was going to be a reversal which there was. Why anyone would worry it wouldn’t be reversed is beyond me. Great story 🙄

merry123459 I guess math is difficult for the guys in rental car business. That being said, I would like to rent a car that sustains +500 km/h

I recall Kitchener being far closer to Toronto than 18,000km but maybe it’s because I wasn’t in a hurry and the distances always seem shorter when in that frame of mind...

thereasonrock 36(000)km is not far away. Whoaaaaaaa-ohhhhh

Customer service has been horrible since way before covid. Companies talk the talk but rarely walk the walk

Car rental companies scam

merry123459 Did she go visit her mom in nursing home, location chosen by Doug?🤦‍♀️🤯

Was just an error and is already fixed. Not such a big news to post everywhere as headline. World has many bigger problems than this. LearnJournalism101.

The Avis employee she spoke to (or even the Manager) should have realized that no one could drive 36K km. Common sense and critical thinking skills were required by the employees to realize that the charge was an error. I guess you don’t need these skills to work at Avis.

Maybe her ridiculously looking oversized glasses are to blame.

Did she rent a Bugatti Veyron and drink gallons of coffee so she can go 500 km/h for three days straight?

That is approximately 500kms per hour and she did not sleep nor stop for the 3 days. 🤪🤪

36000 not even possible lol

Companies don't give a damn about ripping people off, they do it on a hourly bases, either its payroll or consumer theft, and they cant be criminally charged. Its sad that the only way to stick it to them is by going viral, but even then, its not like they actually face the law

The comments certainly show how few people actually read an article before commenting 😟

Lolol how is that even possible in a car? Did she drive over oceans with a rocket attached to the back?

It's take 15 hrs to travel one way by air to India from Toronto, so she is the new wonder woman

Nearly happened to me a few days ago - there was a miles to km unit error when I swapped my car due to engine problems in the US. Lucky my contract has unlimited miles 😀

Like driving from Toronto to Montreal in 1hr X 72. Super fast and super ridiculous.

That's gotta be with a lotta coffee n drivers that weren't listed on the rental agreement. Also... It must have been a Mazda... zoomzoom

Charged with speeding

If she thought that was stressful try getting a hold of the bank or insurance company.

why is this news

this is absolutely impossible

Rented from Avis in May bad experience terrible customer service never again. I’m in the process of writing to their head office and filling a complaint!

Awesome story

That’s not even possible mathematically

Every car I rent includes unlimited kilometres.

wtf was she driving

Why is this even news? Desperate for headlines?

Women fails to read her receipt , then runs to the media over a simple clerical error. Slow news day?

I've heard of Truanons, but this thread is filled with Avisanons. WTF?

Dont most rentals come with unlimited kilometers. Avis should be ashamed of their terrible customer service nobody wants to worry abt a $8000 pending charge.

Avis smh

Wow. 500 kms per hour. Thats insane.

She looks like a ugly Hebrew bum

Hmmm. Grade 2 math: If the top speed of this car is 300km/h. And she drove at this speed constantly (non-stopping) for 72 hours. What’s the total distance of her journey?

Gee, she put the car on a treadmill? It’s impossible to drive that much in a few days

Most impressive part is she drove over 500kmph and never got caught for speeding

Aww cp no liberal stories you need to be pushing? No slow day ..no bias anti conservative crap to spew ?

500 km/hr ! how? was this car from the future?

She was probably changed a per person fee. 5people x 100KM/h = 500KM-persons/h. 😂

Maybe she was stuck on ice and kept trying to floor it but wasn’t moving and didn’t realize it and that’s what racked up the 36,000… 🤣

Just like Canadian government services, once the media gets involved that is when they start looking at your case. Otherwise you would wait forever.

how do you auto authorize 8g how did it go through in the 1st place .. oh gonna be a fun time in court .. make sure you can afford your own jet when done

How do you not look at your receipt at the return of the vehicle?

500mph?!?!? Great Scott!!!!

Companies still charge per km? I only ever rent unlimited lol

Some brain trust at Avis turned 360 kms into 36,000 kms with a key stroke.

2.8 times around the Earth? How’d she afford the gas?

Just reporting crap!!!

Does this clickbait qualify as news?

Check your receipt when you're at the counter next time.Cant believe people put so much trust in others lol.

500 km/hr on average. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

Avis did not see the decimal! Good thing police did not auto charge her for going 500 kph😀

How is that even possible lol.

Yeah ok give me a break

36,000 clicks in 72 hrs so about 500 Km an hr? Since when are they renting out Koenigsegg Agera?

36,000km in 3 days? So she was like drove non-stop for 72h without rest, sleep, bio-breaks, food and stopping to fuel or at all at 500km/h speed? Sounds legit

Probably Avis’s people were high!

I heard this story on the radio - took her like 15mins to tell it lolololololllll

That Justin’s carbon tax in the future. 800.00 rental and 39200.00 in fuel taxes.

Squirrel

That seems to be the norm for all companies since the pandemic- no one answers the phones

Normally you check the receipt of a large purchase to ensure everything is correct. This whole ordeal is her own fault,

I just spat out my drink

A yes she drove across most of the planet in 3 days

That’s impossible she had to be driving non stop with no sleep doing 500km/ hour to have done that.

I guess CP24 has no other news to report

How is that possible driving so many Kms in just 3 days. This news should be verified before posting.

Can she at least be registered in the Guinness books of world records at that cost

So India is 11000 kms away from Canada and she travelled this much distance back and forth and even more in 3 days wow

Maybe she wanted to stock up on Covid test kits b4 the fall 🤷🏼‍♂️

Sounds like an employee was pulling a scam

120km/hr x 72 hrs = 8640 km and that is non stop driving 😂

Travelling back to the day I was born wouldn't be as much KMs

What is the point of this story? Once she reached Avis, they refunded the charge and said sorry. She also contacted Visa and they said they had to wait for the charge to not be “pending” anymore, which means she just had to wait a bit. Why is CP24 wasting time on this?

How that is possible

slow news day again. 36,000 kil in 3 days yeah right 😆 🤣

Very glad she got a refund.

I may buy the car if it can fly as well, lol

I feel like there is atleast 1 extra 0 there

Time travel?

Lol. Whats the name of the company?

sanity checks? who needs em?

Not even trucker can drive that distance in that timeframe. Thats is 527km/hr round the clock without stopping at all.

Lol, so she drove to Buenes Aires and back, TWICE. She should sue them for utter incompetence.

They have her credit card so she is in deep

😵‍💫maybe she drives really fast !!!!

Some rental cos like playing with odometers

Was it a DeLorean?

Did she rent a rocket 🚀

How?!?

What? It's not even possible. You would have to drive 500 kilometers per hour over 72hrs straight
