As 'quiet quitters' take a step back, execs and experts argue the decision could damage careers and companies

Johnny C. Taylor Jr., President and CEO of, the world’s largest HR society, says remote work has caused severe burnout, Zoom fatigue, and made it harder for some workers to take breaks from home. “I don’t know a company in America that is not sensitized to burnout and the need for employees to step away from the workplace for their mental health.”

The decision to step away from “hustle culture” can cause tension between employees and company executives, and can also cause a rift between fellow colleagues who may have to pick up the slack. “Whether people feel like their coworkers are committed to quality work can affect the performance of the organization and cause friction inside teams and organizations,” says Jim Harter, Chief Scientist for Gallup’s workplace management practice.

Aside from providing his employees remote-work flexibility and on-site perks at the office, he says his workplace lacks quiet quitters because he values employees’ moments of pushback. Making employees comfortable enough to voice their concerns before they get to the stage of “quietly” changing their pace at work is key, according to his spokesperson.

In other words, modern corporations are build on unpaid/underpaid labor. If employees doing these extra tasks is essential to the company, the company needs to add that to the job description and pay for it.

Quiet quitting would be coming to work, walking around and doing nothing.

If there were more incentives and real valued recognition …this would not be a topic per say!

So, finally employees get fed up with the broken promises, the deskilling, the default below-inflation pay rises, and having to be Tiggerish about the latest corporate wheeze. Good.

If 'quiet quitters' are still fulfilling their 'job description,' getting their required work completed, than there's nothing wrong with it. It may be they've realized that 'hard work,' going above and beyond, doesn't payoff as much as plying social skills does to get ahead.

The company is damaged already hardly aware of it. The employee is well aware and only avoiding being damaged themselves. Fix the company by hiring who is all right, not who is all wrong for fuckin kicks.

If it damages careers and the companies, why don't you create a decent working environment where you grow as an employee, get payed well, and where you have a well functioning work-life balance? You do that, the company will grow as well.

as long as they keep around drug users because they're crazy hard workers for 3-4 days then they disappear for a week and magically keep their jobs then we got an issue no one wants to talk about. Everything bad rules the workplace.. its slavery.

It is work your wage. Wage theft by employers is already a huge problem in this country. I don’t see a problem with people doing what they are paid for and nothing more.

We use to just call it lack of work ethic, but then again we use to work hard to try to succeed and help others as well as our businesses get ahead. It was taking the initiative and use to get rewarded with promotion bonuses, raises ect. Now ppl wonder why they don't get them.

If you bought 10 pallets of bricks would you expect the supplier to throw a couple in for free ? Labour is a commodity like anything else and should be paid for.

Companies fear emploeeys would gain any power and may not work 60+ hour weeks for $50k a year is a better headline.
