THE last time Rexy Mainaky guided a Malaysian men’s doubles pair to the final of the World Championships, it ended in heartbreaking fashion.

This time around, the doubles coaching director is determined to produce a different outcome as he prepares national No. 1 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik for a title showdown with Indonesian veterans Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan in the world meet in Tokyo.

Rexy, who has rejoined the national set-up last year, is determined to help Aaron-Wooi Yik make up for Kien Keat-Boon Heong’s painful loss and finally end the country’s long wait for a world title. The 2019 SEA Games champions Aaron-Wooi Yik have struggled to win Open titles, most often crashing in the semi-finals. The closest they came was at the 2019 All-England before losing to Ahsan-Hendra.
