“This is a great first step to helping the next generation of young children going into day homes to be safer,” Wyness said.Council’s plan would come with extra costs for operators, including an annual $172 fee for the business licence and another $65 for background checks, which would be required for all adults living in the homes.Article content

“This is provincial jurisdiction and I find myself wondering why we waste city hall’s time, resources and energy on things that aren’t in our jurisdiction,” said McLean. Julie Audy, a child-care program operator and advocate for accessible child care, said the added oversight would be an excellent way to support children’s safety for unregulated providers.
