The former president Thabo Mbeki says South Africans must not buy into the narrative that foreigners are the only ones who commit crime in the country.

Mbeki was engaging with students and diplomats at the University of South Africa in Pretoria on Wednesday.

Mbeki says, ” We need to walk away from the false notion that the bulk of crime in this country is caused by foreigners. It is not correct. The bulk of crime in this country is caused is committed by South Africans. There are foreigners who commit crimes. You should arrest them and charge them this is what we should do and avoid labelling other people.”In February, Defence Minister, Thandi Modise said most criminal syndicates in the country are not operated by South Africans.

And I wish in this country we can vote for leaders that listen to us as citizens than us listening to them and we must change our system that's says majority rule coz majority vote them in but they take big decisions for majority while minority angazi noma uyangizwa

We know Mr mbheki that with this statement you are defending your business interests outside of the country

Because he knows he is the one who helped Mugabe messed up Zimbabwe. He must not tag us along into his mess. He is actually a mess, he managed to mess up two countries

But that we all know, there is criminals in every country. But we don't want other countries criminals that is getting away with it and that makes it very dangerous

We never said foreigners are the only ones commiting crime. We said the majority of foreigners are commiting crime and that's a fact

He must futsek he's the one who started opening the borders so wide and now we fond ourselves in yhis mess.

Sir,Tmali & Unisa student. I wrote all 8 modules BA Honours Psych & Covid hit. No results, comm, No access & no access to varsity internet. It's always down. My fees - paid before I wrote. No email. This meant no supplementary exams. Help! It is going on over a year.

It's so funny at times he defended the country of not being xenophobic but fighting crime which happens it was mostly committed by foreigners.

How many of the illegals is Mbeki housing 2 relief black townships of over crowding? With his wealth he can easily house, pay 4 healthcare 4 a lot of them! Crime has always been here in 🇿🇦.The presence of illegals added human trafficking,Fraud passports n Sassa claims, drugs..etc

Mr No Crisis in Zimbabwe. He is no longer president, is not gonna force on us believe rhetoric phrases deny HIV/aids including not changing our views on illegal migrations. He can move to Nigeria be president over there.

Key word 'only' 🤔

Uyanya lo tata.

Now that will not trend.💁🏾‍♂️

Can he shut up and enjoy his pension

The security cluster agrees that most syndicates are controlled by foreign nationals, then boom Thabo Mbeki the former president says we must not buy into the narrative that foreigners are the only ones who are commits crime, I really don't know why are we not being listen to

We don't buy into his narrative instead, when we say foreign nationals are involved in most crimes, we talking our lived experiences here, the former president should not undermine that, He is older than me but I have lived in SA for many years than he has. I know my people.

Mnxm. Who told him we are buying . Who is selling that narrative. We know there are criminals in South Africa that's why we have jails

If he wants to keep them he must stay with them in his house

Foreigners re commiting crimes in SA so we have to ignore that Mbeki can keep quite and stop telling history that can't fix SA right now.

Ukuguga kwenza ingqondo ikushiye baqinisile if bethi if ukhula ngeminyaka ingqondo iyamakube ngati ingane encane lo uyaphupha shame emini

Mbekhi thinks we have forgotten that he's an actor

Akandidike lotata yhu

We have been dealing with his kind and we are no longer bothered by people who decide to change what we stand for. South Africa for South Africans and allow our SAPS to deal with crimes committed by SA citizens in SA, we don't need illegal immigrants to top the stats.

We never had a good president, abelusi bezinkomo bonke laba.

His time has passed... We won't listen to his opinion cause we have our own when it comes to foreigners. THEY MUST GO BACK PERIOD...

A Foreigner should not commit crime.

Msunu wakhe

Mbeki must just go to old age home or not address anything related to immigration asseblief tog..

What must we buy? Illegal immigration is a crime. Anyone being in the country has commited a crime already. That's over 22 million crimes. Over 10 foreigners are arrested charged detained prosecuted jailed everyday. Public money is used on the foreigner criminals.

We have never bought such narrative He must get his facts straight or shut up

How dare people like him who are to blame for failing to secure our borders and implement immigration laws, be the very same people to tell us that our lived experiences are to be disregarded and gaslighted. This is a spit in our faces. And the ANC shall pay for this come 2024!

He has interest those foreigner countries

Tell Mbeki to voetsek

Thabo Mbeki never lived in South Africa hence he was a president of Africa and not South Africa during his tenure. Angasjwayeli kabi nxaaaaaa 😡......

Preach sir

Thabo Mbeki address South Africans on what capacity?

We don't even kill rhinos bcoz South Africans r scared or wild animals

I hate when Anc defend criminality by foreign national bcoz they r course

South Africans are committing crime in their own country. Trans-border and trans-national criminal syndicates are a real socio-economic threat and stability of South Africa i.e Basotho, Mozambican, and Zimbabwean Zama Zamas as 1 example.

No one said Foreigners are the ones commiting crime! !!, but what can not be ignored is involvement of Foreigners with serious and violent crimes, economic sabotage, illegal mining, kidnappings. What did we do to the MYANC as majority South Africans for ther hate against us

We never said they're the only one but surely more than 40% of crime committed by foreigners some of crimes are only for foreigners. When a police running after a foreigner South African commit a crime if that foreigners didn't commit a crime then SA.

Who has EVER said that He should point to them.

No one has ever said anything like that.

No one has ever said that. But we keep alarming politicians that foreigners commit lots of crimes, other fields they dominate in, but he is pushing a false narrative that we say it's only foreigners.

Of course. The ANC are the number one culprits. How many Billions have disappeared since 1994?🤣🤣

Kanti thina sitheni?Omunye nomunye must go to their country of origin and commit a crime there.

Periodt.

lolwut. Anyone who actually believes that needs to go back to school. We know that the biggest thieves are South African and are part of the ANC

Bra Thibos is all talk, just sounds smart with no action

Kaze uyizwephi le ka “only ones”

They’re not the only ones but they’re unmatched in committing heinous crimes, we don’t drug 12 year olds and turn them into prostitutes, we don’t kill people for their cellphones

That's right, they face stiff competition from Mbeki's ANC among others ...

I’m gradually making more earnings now in my trades but with the aid of a trader that was recommended and now I'm recommending her to y'all EliDonovan01

No2. We said ILLEGAL immigrants

Own goal🥅

We did not say that.... They are half of our problems
