The Road Freight Association (RFA) says Transnet’s decision to invoke a force majeure on Thursday following the decision by some employees to go on a wage-related strike is “ill-placed and wrong”. Moneyweb WageDisputes Matshoba_A

The Road Freight Association says Transnet’s decision to invoke a force majeure on Thursday following the decision by some employees to go on a wage-related strike is “ill-placed and wrong”. RFA CEO Gavin Kelly voiced the industry association’s disapproval with the road, port and pipeline company in a WhatsApp voice note to the media on Friday. “Transnet’s invocation of force majeure is ill-placed, its wrong and is not relevant to the current circumstances.

“The open-ended strike has occurred during the peak of the berry export season, which means even a single day of ports not operating will have a significant knock-on effect on the entire berry value chain putting 30 000 livelihoods who depend on the industry at risk as well as millions of rand in export revenue,” chairperson Justin Mudge said in a statement.
