Ousted Johannesburg mayor Mpho Phalatse laid criminal charges against the Johannesburg Property Company , which she alleged to have engaged in a fraudulent activity linked to the ANC. JPC, a municipal entity,"appears to have engaged in an act of fraud or corruption, involving millions of taxpayers’ money siphoned off to a company linked to the ANC".
Gauteng SAPS provincial spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo confirmed to City Press that a case of fraud had been opened at the Hillbrow Police Station on Wednesday, adding that an investigation would take place.However, Masondo said he could not, at this juncture, divulge the name of the complainant or the accused.
"While the JPC's report asserts that a portion of the R27 million was intended to settle rental arrears and interest accrued, we are informed that the building has been vacant for over a year," Phalatse asserted.
