Edward Waters partners with UF in accelerated nursing program

A select group of biology majors at Edward Waters University will be able to earn a nursing degree through the University of Florida College of Nursing as part of a new program announced Wednesday.

Five students from Edward Waters will be able to enroll in the program, which will have them take prerequisite courses at EWU and then enrolled in the Accelerated Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing program. “As president and on behalf of Florida’s first HBCU, we are tremendously excited to enter this historic and incredibly impactful partnership with the University of Florida’s College of Nursing,” Edward Waters President A. Zachary Faison Jr. said in a statement.

The expansion of the program is being funded in part by a $40 million fund that was appropriated by the state legislature in the most recent session to bolster the number of nursing graduates in Florida. The program, known as PIPELINE, is providing $3.6 million to UF to increase enrollment, provide scholarships and hire faculty.
