The powerful industry superannuation sector will push top companies to reach a 1.5 degree climate warming pathway as they back billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes to shake up the AGL board.

. The company is instead proposing a pathway in line with 1.8 degrees of warming.

“The Paris Agreement is aimed at ’holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, recognising that this would significantly reduce the risks and impacts of climate change,” she said. “ACSI supports the Paris Agreement’s objective.”

Despite backing three of Mr Cannon-Brookes' directors for the AGL board, ACSI are understood to have followed proxy firms Ownership Matters and CGI Glass Lewis in supporting AGL's plan at the AGM.
