Now the fate of the Coyotes' project rests in the hands of Tempe residents, who will vote on the arena development in 2023. phoenix

The Arizona Coyotes hockey team is one step closer to having a permanent home venue after Tempe City Council unanimously approved a development agreement late Tuesday evening that would allow its ownership to build a $2.1 billion entertainment district and arena.

Several members of the business community – including the heads of the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Tempe Chamber of Commerce and Chicanos Por La Causa – came out in support of the Coyotes. Executives from the National Hockey League also flew into the Valley Tuesday to attend the Council meeting.

“He has the resources; he has the commitment, and he has been unwavering in his desire to get it done,” Bettman said. “Frankly, we think this will be a win-win for the community and for the Coyotes.”to build the arena and entertainment district — which would include restaurants and other retail, hotels, offices and apartments — on 46 acres on the northeast corner of Priest Drive and Rio Salado Parkway, just south of the Salt River, back in September 2021.

Gutierrez said the organization has yet to determine how it wants to run its campaign in Tempe or how much it will spend, but said he wants to make sure the voters in Tempe know exactly what the Coyotes what to do.
