abc.net.au/news/hobart-kunanyi-mount-wellington-cable-car-attempt-fails/101737010The latest attempt to have a cable car built up to the summit of kunanyi/Mount Wellington is over after the company decided not to appeal against its defeat in Tasmania's planning tribunal. The lapse of the appeal period brings an end to almost a decade of planning, lobbying and debate
MWCC can wait two years to submit the proposal to Hobart council again and attempt to address the grounds for its defeat in TASCAT, seek special permission, or change the proposal It means the current plans – which included three towers, two cable cars, and a new pinnacle centre – will no longer proceed.
Residents Opposed to the Cable Car spokesperson Vica Bayley said opponents within the council and parts of the community had been vindicated, and the proposal should be abandoned in all forms.
Good cable cars are scary anyway, what you actually want to do is get a road crew in and run. 2 lane road up the side of the mountain with lots of S bends.
That in no small part why I left my birth-place Hobart long ago. The stronghold that greenies have on that place is stifling.
In other words, financing costs are up.
Good
good!
Good
