Almost a decade of planning, lobbying and debate come to an end as the Mount Wellington Cableway Company confirms it will not appeal against its defeat in the state planning tribunal.

MWCC can wait two years to submit the proposal to Hobart council again and attempt to address the grounds for its defeat in TASCAT, seek special permission, or change the proposal It means the current plans – which included three towers, two cable cars, and a new pinnacle centre – will no longer proceed.

Residents Opposed to the Cable Car spokesperson Vica Bayley said opponents within the council and parts of the community had been vindicated, and the proposal should be abandoned in all forms.

Good cable cars are scary anyway, what you actually want to do is get a road crew in and run. 2 lane road up the side of the mountain with lots of S bends.

That in no small part why I left my birth-place Hobart long ago. The stronghold that greenies have on that place is stifling.

In other words, financing costs are up.
