Apple is abandoning its plans to launch a controversial tool that would check iPhones, iPads and iCloud photos for child sexual abuse material following backlash from critics who decried the feature’s potential privacy implications. Apple first announced the feature in 2021, with the goal of helping combat child exploitation and promoting safety, issues the tech community has increasingly embraced.

At the time, the company said the tool would turn photos on iPhones and iPads into unreadable hashes — or complex numbers — stored on user devices. Those numbers would be matched against a database of hashes provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children once the pictures were uploaded to Apple’s iCloud storage service.

This was a moral cause I wish they could have moved forward on.

Bigger news: check out elonmusk. 2nd drop showing corruption and censorship. Why aren't you reporting?

You are kidding! This is to protect children! If people are concerned of invasion of privacy, then, throw away all cell phones, computers, tablets, sell all cars built after 1999, no new TV’s, no bills online or automatic debits, get CHECK, no direct deposit and stop all cards!

Who are these critics? We know it's not Epstein.

عندي الاكن مقفول

they r already doing it, no? lol

After MohsenShekari there’s a list of innocent protesters in danger of execution , be their voice and don’t let this happen again SamanYasin AliMoazami SahandNourMohammadZadeh MohammadGhobadlou MohammadBeroghani

They still going to help the CCP oppress, torture, and murder its own citizens? I wish I had a Google phone and not this one. Apple is gross.

I don’t get it, what’s controversial about it ?! If you have nothing to hide, we should all support it. Apple knows security so they’re not going to be snooping around other areas of your phone for something else 🙄. GetThosePedophiles

For those about to lose it, theres real implications here. Your kid, has a rash, your KIDS DOCTOR asks for photos before prescribing drugs, BAM! you're now a 'predator' and banned from google, FB, Apple Ect, and zero recourse! Its happening more and more

So they'll do it anyway but just not tell anyone

Why?

Only perverts would squeal

Ummm I think they can keep that one. Silencing protesters in China is not the same thing.

Seriously. Why is keeping sickos from viewing child sex abuse material an issue?
