Urbana YardHomes is planning YardHomes at Rowlett Creek, 301 rental homes in single-unit buildings and duplexes designed to look like traditional subdivision. They will range in size from 635 to 1,500 square feet.
The current property owner is Casa De Me Gloria USA Inc., a bilingual church in Garland. The developer is under contract for the property. The city previously approved plans for a new church on the vacant site, but it was never constructed. “It’s not garden-style, it’s not a dense multifamily development, it’s a unique single-family style that will be rented,” attorney Bill Dahlstrom told the council on behalf of Urbana.
Urbana specializes in this kind of development, often called the “missing middle.” Single-family and duplex rental communities have surged in popularity over the last few years and have“A lot of the time [other people] say, ‘We supply this missing middle,’ and it may be, you know, a $400,000 townhome,” Campbell said. “That’s not the missing middle.”
