Small Business incubator program helps couple open seasonal store in

are senior citizens ages 75 and 68, respectively. In their glory years, the couple embraced risk and skirted fear to launch their first retail store, “Merry Makers and More.” The grand opening was held Thursday, Dec. 22 in the Avenues Mall—just three days before Christmas.

Black Friday was the first day the store opened for business and currently, lavish Christmas décor is strategically displayed throughout the store. The product mix also includes private-label jewelry, small furniture and non-seasonal home décor.. “Some were successful, but we knew we needed a plan to do this one right, so we got help to best prepare.”

For a bit longer than a year, they remained in the program and were provided additional assistance by Dr.“I offered need-specific assistance through workshops, training and referrals,” said Dunbar. Lawrence will join the First CCCIT in 2023 as a board member and peer mentor to other small business owners.
