received a two-acre land donation in Nassau County from the Eloise Bailey-Thompson Trust to boost the organizations land conservation near the Florida-Georgia line.
The acreage is next to the 160-acre Basala-Chico conservation easement the already owns. Those lands were previously donated by the Bailey-Thompson family, a press release said. The land provides frontage on the St. Mary’s River and is the habit for several plant species. NFLT Interim President Allison DeFoor add environmental benefits to the conservation area like protecting the watershed, which benefits the St. Mary’s River Basin.
“It is now or never for land conservation, and we greatly appreciate the Bailey-Thompson family for their generous donation and for realizing the importance of protecting this land,” DeFoor said. “Not only did they donate the property, they also covered all the transaction costs and donated funds to help us with the long-term management of this new addition and the existing conservation easement.”
