Downtown Glace Bay was the scene of a stabbing Monday night. According to a Cape Breton Regional Police news release, a 40-year-old man is in police custody in connection with the incident. CONTRIBUTEDGLACE BAY - A business owner who found a man bleeding outside her shop after he was stabbed Monday night is calling for better lighting, more attention to revitalizing the downtown and action to address a derelict building.

“There was a stream of blood from him. There was another pool of blood farther along the sidewalk. I went in to get the phone to call 911,” she said. At about 6 p.m., police responded to reports that a person was observed injured on the sidewalk in the area of Bay Health Foods. A 45-year-old man was stabbed in his back and treated at Cape Breton Regional Hospital Monday night. He was discovered bleeding on Commerical Street in Glace Bay. CONTRIBUTED - Contributed

Council members contacted for comment on the stabbing and concerns about the downtown did not return messages from the Cape Breton Post by deadline. She wants to see the stigma overcome and Glace Bay revitalized as it’s a place with lots of potential.Even cleaning up graffiti is important to revitalizing the area’s image, Stephenson said.
