Business leader and former Philippine Ambassador to Japan Manuel “Manolo” Lopez passed away on Thursday, January 12.

He was 80.

Lopez served as ambassador to Japan from 2011 to 2016, during the administration of the late President Benigno Aquino III. Lopez was the chairman of Lopez Holding Corp. He also led power utility giant Manila Electric Company as chairman.Lopez graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of the East and advanced studies in the Financial and Management Development Program from Harvard Business.

The former ambassador is survived by his wife Maritess, his children and in-laws namely Maita and Jorge, Beaver, Mike and Chris, and Mark and Connie; as well as his grandchildren Isabella, Bettina, Miguel, Martina, Manu, Andreas, Jack, and Luis. Lopez’s wake is at Heritage Memorial Pan in Taguig City. His memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 17.
