Will you miss the Lincoln Christmas Market?

South Kesteven’s Best Kept Village competition will be rebranded and absorbed into its community awards in a bid to save cash.

Councillor Annie Mason told the The Rural and Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee: “The best kept village competition as it stands gives a sense of pride to local residents by allowing them to showcase the areas in which they live. However, she said: “I’m not so keen on the paper certificate. Like I said, not every village has a pub or a village hall and where does that bit of paper end up?

It’s had it’s day 40 years of over priced food and gifts and being taken round like a flock of sheep. And let’s not go there with the traffic.

Another chapter in the book of crazy ideas from city leaders . Only Lincoln would ever even contemplate this . Madness .

Definitely don't agree with this decision. People look to make the trip across as it is special and it brings so many people over due to its one off nature. More events would just desaturate the excitement and people won't be able to afford multiple trips over here. Bad idea.

Maybe we could attract repeat tourism for our city and therefore benefit our economy for the long term by developing a nationally/internationally recognised Christmas Market?

I'm not a fan of the market but it seem a little bit crazy that a an event that is so well attended cannot be made profitable and its also poor that it can't be managed by park and ride schemes or a bit of thought, how many business will suffer yet again

A well managed Christmas market, with a discounted spot for our German friends

I don't know, but being selfish it will be nice to go out for my birthday in that area

Hi and Yes I will miss it I went in December on the Saturday the busiest day and it was well organised and the crowds were well behaved too It will be missed

Appalling and short sighted decision….. just organise it better. Have the powers that be ever heard of a ticketed experience 🤷🏻‍♂️

Canceling as its too busy? Genius decision. Why not spread it out more over the city down in to the High Street instead of it being condensed into such a small area. My parents moved away 13 years ago and my Mum still misses the market every Christmas.

They need to spread it out over more days and a bigger area. Or reduce it a bit and ticket it. Free tickets but given a time and date of entry and entry points to keep it to sensible numbers. It’s a great thing and generates a lot but it got a bit out of hand. Don’t cancel it!

What? Noooooooo! We love the Christmas market!!! Say it’s not so xxxx

Not the way it was currently being run, no.

Definitely! This market is the start of Christmas for my family and we'll be gutted to see it go

It’s astonishing to see that after one of the most successful markets in recent years, the council decides to cancel it. Last year a massive delegation from Neustadt was invited to celebrate the success of this market and now it is worthless. Speaks volumes for the Twinning.

The biggest problem has been centralising everything in such a small area, spread across city would be better and make it less food and gift stalls more of an event

It needed reorganising not ending, but hey...

Change the style of it to a more traditional German Xmas market spread over the 4 weekends before Xmas. Spread over a greater area, lesson the impact on such a small area and spread the visitors over a greater time period

Nope

A ridiculous decision when you consider the revenue it generates for the city. Maybe if the council bothered to think differently about how the event is run and organised it would be better. A shockingly appalling and short sighted decision by all involved. They are useless.

No! Been getting progressively more of a tat-fest every year. Completely lost the feeling of a special event. Anyone for Lidl “German” biscuits?
