So why isn’t CBC keeping the Trudeau government to account? Oh yes, they don’t bite the hand that feeds them
There is more to this though. The problem is that our Central Bank is following monetary policies that are outdated. Prices aren’t rising because people are making more money (like in the 1980s). Prices are rising because of greed. You can’t fix that with interest hikes.
This time of year, most of our produce is imported which adds to the price. Workers' wages have increased, but it's hard to find workers in food processing, so employers have rising costs. The government has nocontrol over how grocery chains inflate prices to satisfy investors.
There’s ONLY 4 food co’s in Canada: Loblaws,Metro,Sobeys,Walmart are a MONOPOLY & gouge us at “will” Trudeau has a “Competition Act” he CAN use to stop them, but he’s their friend not ours. 4 companies will drive UP mortgages so Canadians lose houses WRONG
Raising interest rates adds to inflation and moves the impact to users of debt and away from owners of capital. The real solution is to tax company excessive declared profits and stock by backs.
Why isn't the competition bureau investigating these food prices?
Very low hike coming....maybe 0.25%. The Bank of Canada has no idea what's going on with this economy and hiking interest rates is their only remedy . 150000 jobs added on January !! Wow
Yes it’s infuriating!! There needs to be an investigation!!
Hey why don’t you explain how a carbon tax will decrease the cost of goods that require carbon emitting vehicles to deliver said goods? How’s the increase to this tax going to reduce prices further? We would all love to know
So basically, increase the interest rate which is the excuse for businesses to raise their prices, so to combat them increasing their prices just keep increasing the interest rate… hmmmm makes sense 😂😂😂😂
Crooks just like the liberals
Fckin Greed!
Its greedflation... and that's something to do with human nature and isn't bound by legislation.
What do grocery prices have to do with interest rates? Clearly nothing.
Like seriously, the solution is another sucker punch to the consumer via interest rate hikes? The grocery stores are already punching us weekly, why not let the government get their swings in too? Can someone explain how any of this helps us?
Gotta say as a young person the last year has been the best economically. Ya sure my eggs are $3.50 now instead of $2.50 but my first home is also 100k less. Keep the rate hikes up.
So, companies make huge profits, and the response from BOC is... to make things less affordable? Great economic strategy guys, would be a shame is someone [REDACTED]
No make it illegal for food companies to gouge customers. Since most consumed processed food has less and less actual food and more chemicals it is only profit based. Shut that down
It's absolutely the steal what you can't afford stage of the dystopia, to hell with these greedy chains. Not like they've been paying their staff more for all the profit they're raking in.
If bank rates rise mainly to fight food inflation, people will start to starve and our cities will be as crime-filled as most American cities.
How can prices come down when stakeholders in grocery stores demand greater and greater profit margins year after year?
The government need to pull their finger out of their ass’s and put controls in place to stop price gouging
Higher cost goods and higher interest rates!
It is time for the government to step in and lock prices on groceries. It is absolutely insane what big grocery companies have done to the public out of pure greed. This is completely out of control and needs to stop... time to wake up Ottawa and step in.
And yet, according to JustinTrudeau he has our backs. Maybe to stomps all over the rights of Canadians and of course, his spendthrift government has nothing to do with inflation nor the compounding of carbon taxes on the cost of everything we consume🤦🏾♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏿♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏼♂️🤷🏾♀️
