A South African fund manager charged by US authorities with currency manipulation to trigger a $30-million payout will go on trial in October after being released on a $15-million personal bond. Neil Phillips, the co-founder and former chief investment officer of hedge fund Glen Point Capital, waslast year at the request of US authorities for allegedly manipulating the rand-dollar spot rate.
At the time of his arrest, US authorities alleged that Phillips manipulated the exchange rate to trigger a $20-million payout via an options contract.
