Developer Crow Holding's wooden office building in Frisco is the first such North Texas project to use the latest trend in commercial real estate construction.

Big timber columns and wooden ceilings aren’t what you find in a typical modern office.

Designed by architects Duda|Paine and Gensler, the Offices at Southstone Yards building has floor-to-ceiling windows, outdoor terraces and a two-story lobby. There’ll be a fitness center, tenant lounge and café. “We took both to market,” Armbrister said. “We showed it to tenants and brokers and capital sources. People came back and said we want the mass timber.”

The core of the Southstone Yards building, which houses elevators and mechanical components, is made of concrete. Crow Holdings has land at the Southstone Yards project to build two or three more offices. The office buildings are part of the mixed-use development at State Highway 121 and Spring Creek Parkway.
