The NECA’s Network of Entrepreneurial Women (NNEW) has tasked government to assist market women with better understanding of cashless policy.

National President of NNEW, Mrs. Funmilayo Arowoogun, who gave the charge at a training of about 50 market women in Somolu on the theme, “Increase women’s access and control over economy resources,” said: “Things are not moving too well generally in the country, as the cashless policy came up at the time when there was high inflation.

“The cashless policy, no doubt, is a good one and we must all embrace it. We must learn to do businesses using transfers and other avenues like the Internet. This is the era of digitisation, but the issue for us as Nigerian women in business and market women is that this is not the right time as there is no enough money in circulation. People don’t have access to their money and this is making things very difficult for everyone, especially the market women.

“All these market women go to the villages and farm to buy their goods. Many of these villages don’t have banks. Some of the traders don’t have bank accounts. They get their cash from the money obtained when they sell their goods.” The facilitators, Toluwanimi Rosamond, Aisha Ime-James and Dr. Obiageli Nwobi, said that prioritising costing helps businesses to set price, reduce and control cost, as well as make better decisions about the direction the business should go.Deputy Iyaoloja General in Somolu, Alhaja Omobolanle Sulaimon, appealed to the government to provide affordable shops for traders to reduce road market and assist them financially.
