UPDATE: National Weather Service confirms tornado touched down in Montebello. Crews are still surveying the area to determine how strong the twister was.

The roof of a Montebello business was ripped off and more than a dozen other buildings were damaged Wednesday by a tornado during another day of severe weather in Southern California.

One person was injured and 11 of the 17 damaged buildings were red-tagged, meaning they're not safe to enter, according to the Montebello Fire Department. Montebello spokesman Michael Chee said the injured woman's injuries were minor and not life-threatening. The Montebello Fire Department is working to assess the damage caused by a small tornado, that tore the roof of of a business. As seen on NBC4 News on March 22, 2023.

"We started holding the door, but we couldn't," said Niky Orellana, owner of Niky's Sports Warehouse."It blew out the door. It blew out the window."

The National Weather Service confirmed this was indeed a small tornado.
