Two powerful Alberta cabinet ministers have announced in separate letters that they will not seek re-election in the coming provincial vote in favour of a return to private life.
“Minister Travis Toews has been one of the strongest finance ministers in Alberta’s history and leaves a legacy of strong fiscal management that I will continue to uphold as Premier,” she said in a statement. It is unclear who will now get the UCP nomination in the affected ridings, but Ms. Smith said she is working with the party and local constituency associations to appoint new candidates ahead of the May 29 election.
