The House of Representatives has urged the federal government to strengthen the creative industry.

The House noted that this is necessary in order to boost the economy of the country, reduce unemployment among the terming youths and create more job opportunities.The appeal by the House to the federal government was sequel to a motion moved by one of the lawmakers, Hon. Shina Abiola Peller. The house then unanimously adopted the motion moved by Peller who represents Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency.

The lawmaker in his motion on the urgent need for the federal government to strengthen the country’s creative industry, observed that the current economic values of the Nigerian creative industry provides a veritable incremental source of employment.The lawmaker who hails from Oke Ogun geo-political zone in Oyo state while speaking further added that Nigerian music sector is another creative industry which must be strengthened.

He maintained that there is a need to strengthen the industry, because it has the capacity to aid the country’s economic growth.Peller said, “At the global level, the late Afrobeat creator, Fela Anikulapo-kuti is perhaps the most iconic musician to have come out of Nigeria until recently when Damini Ebunolowa Ogulu a Nigerian singer and songwriter won best international Act at the 2019 BET Awards and was also nominated for the best world music Album at 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.
