For over two decades Barbara Kavovit has been CEO of her own construction company

“I found my niche in one of the toughest cities and industries in the world running a multimillion-dollar construction company,” she says. And she feels hopeful that the industry is improving for women. “Nowadays there are more women filling executive positions in the real estate industry who are willing to give other women the same opportunities,” she says.

Always expanding Kavovit created a tool line for women, has written three books, including two home improvement books and the novel Heels of Steel from Harper Collins. “I’m one of those unique people in New York City who not only creates industries and jobs but also encourages employees and people around me to be the best they can be, challenging them to do more,” she says. “I make sure to set an example for other women who wish to start their own businesses or enter any field they desire.
