Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal is urging U.S companies to join the country’s massive reconstruction effort as it recovers from the devastation caused by Russia’s invasion.

“We’re talking about a new Marshall Plan,” he said during his keynote speech at the U.S.-Ukraine Partnership Forum, held at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., on Thursday. This effort “will completely transform” Ukraine and its economy, he said. Shmyhal said that the economy of Ukraine has declined by a third and that one in six Ukrainians have been forced to become refugees. “Millions of Ukrainians have left their homes,” he said.Speaking earlier at the event, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo also highlighted the role that U.S. companies can play in Ukraine’s recovery.
