A gun that only lets a specific person use it has been under development for over a decade — and it just hit the market.

, a company based in Broomfield, Colorado, on Thursday said it created, launching the world's first biometric handgun, The Biofire Smart Gun, according to a company statement.he started working on the project following the Aurora theater shooting in 2012."That was really my first sort of encounter with the topic…and really started to think about, 'How we can do something about this?'" Kloepfer told Bloomberg.

: The gun uses fingerprints and 3D, infrared facial recognition technology to allow only authorized people to shoot it.It's powered by a rechargeable, lithium-ion battery, and uses encryption technology to ensure it can't be modified into a conventional handgun. The 9mm handgun is designed for home defense, and to prevent firearm deaths among children, Kloepfer said in a statement.: The gun can be preordered with a refundable $149 deposit, and will cost $1,499.

So....your wife is at home and can't use this because it's your finger prints....useless just like democrats!

Not new. Not news. Next!

will that tech be retrofitted to the 400 million guns already in circulation?

I remember when this really pissed off gun nuts

Let me guess: works upwards of 18% of the time!

I'm sure many of us would be wary of fingerprint activated fire extinguishers. When a gun is actually needed for self defense, the window of opportunity is even shorter then that of using a fire extinguisher to keep a fire from getting out of control; the average gunfight is 3-5s

The problem is that we need *more* guns!

Not that many people are killed with legally-acquired weapons, right?

More of this please!!!!

Read the article and underlying data. Young black males in inner cities between 12 and 19 are the vast majority of homicide victims. I’ll just leave that there for consideration.
