A few hours ago, Dato’ Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus who is the Chief Operating Officer of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission was in an interview on Bernama TV. In the short clip, he mentioned that a new entity will eventually take over Digital Nasional Berhad after achieving 80% of the 5G population coverage.
As we have previously reported, the Malaysian government is planning to transition DNB's single wholesale network to a dual network model. When asked by Bernama about DNB's situation in that regard, Mohd Ali replied that DNB will be taken by another entity to become a private company. The 5G network and staff will remain the same.
Under the dual network model there will be two entities for 5G. One of the entities will take over DNB. pic.twitter.com/7KppUQRDx2 — SoyaCincau May 8, 2023 With this, the government will also let go of its entire stake so DNB will no longer belong to them after the 80% 5G coverage goal. By the way, CelcomDigi has announced that it will terminate the previous DNB agreement which will not affect the customers' 5G experience.
In the upcoming dual network model, there will be two entities for 5G and one of them will overtake DNB as aforementioned. Until then, stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
