The city of Houston sued a local nightclub and the property owner, a Pappas family company, following Mayor Sylvester Turner’s pledge to ramp up enforcement against problem nightlife venues.

The Houston Fire Deparment transports several victims in ambulances after a shooting at a night club injured six people.A district court judge shut down a local nightclub connected to the Pappas family after the city of Houston sued the venue Friday in response to a recent shooting.

As part of the lawsuit, the city asked the judge to shut down Tabú immediately and mandate that no new business can use the property until it receives the proper permits. Christina Pappas, the marketing director for the restaurant chain, said PHCG Investments was not aware of any violations at Tabú prior to the shooting.

"We decided to move forward with the lawsuit regardless because I think it is a more effective enforcement tool down the road," Michel said. Tabú is one of the city’s first targets for nuisance abatement lawsuits after Turner vowed Wednesday to crack down on bars and restaurants that have operated outside of city rules.
