The streets of North Olmsted are about to get brighter and more efficient.

The $590,000 conversion project -- replacing roughly 2,440 existing streetlight fixtures with LED lights -- marks a partnership between North Olmsted and the Illuminating Company.“More and more communities, like North Olmsted, are investing in projects that will pay for themselves over and over in terms of cost savings, and this LED streetlight project is a prime example,” said Pat Mullin, acting president of FirstEnergy’s Ohio operations, in a press release.

Compared to the current life of three to five years, the new LED lights are expected to last more than 15 years.“Many of our residents feel that we need better street lighting, and we want to answer that need in a budget-friendly way. “This guaranteed savings from the street light replacement and other energy efficiency projects allows us to do some of the estimated $8 million in deferred maintenance that was identified after I took office,” she said.
