There was previously permission for 25 houses and 20 apartments

A large plot of land off Colliery Way where new houses and apartments could be built has gone on the market after it was revealed that a major supermarket was eyeing up a nearby plot. Just over six acres of land off the road, formerly known as the Gedling Access Road, is being marketed with a guide price of £500,000.

Agents say there has previously been outline planning permission on the site, which has since lapsed, for 25 detached houses and 20 apartments to be built there. The land is therefore described as an "ideal opportunity" for developers and investors. The land is situated close to the 580-acre Gedling Country Park and to the Chase Farm housing development, the latter of which is expected to comprise 1,000 houses once complete.

Developers said in the previous planning application for homes on the site: "The site is vacant and due to its previously developed nature and degrading state, it requires a high-quality re-development to improve the visual and environmental condition of the site. "The site was been previously used in conjunction with Chase Farm, for grazing horses and mowed for sledge. The site has a clearly transitional character given the previous use of the site, which separates the existing built up settlement framework from adjacent fields." A public auction for the site will be held at Nottingham Racecourse on October 26.
