Austin Smith, CEO of Indianapolis-based Watchman Security, says his goal with this new gun detection software is to stop crime before it happens.INDIANAPOLIS — Crime scene after crime scene in Indianapolis. In Marion County, there have been more than 200 homicides this year.Smith says his company is using gun detection software powered by artificial intelligence. The goal is to intercept crime before it happens.

Smith gave 13News a demonstration of how the software works. He showed a man carrying a fake 9mm handgun as the gun detection system zeros in on the weapon. "That's how the alarm will come across in our command, and then this is him going to different places around the facility and here are the pins of every time AI detects where that person is at," said Smith."The thing about artificial intelligence is making sure that it's being used properly. We are not Big Brother," said Smith.
