Despite the support on offer for businesses, including Chancellor Jeremy Hunt's announcement this month to cut National Insurance Contributions by 2p for two million self-employed people, many are falling behind on their tax bills, with 12 Lancashire business owners currently owing a combined total of more than £13million.
Every three months HMRC publishes a list of 'deliberate tax defaulters' in a bid to name and shame those who are refusing to pay their bills. The latest list includes one Blackburn property developer who owes more than £10m.
The latest list, published in December, includes property developers, newsagents, car valets, takeaway owners, estate agents and plasterers. They are from the likes of Preston, Southport, Lytham, Darwen, Blackburn, Chorley and Burnley.
