So far, the New Glasgow Farmers' Market has raised $96,000 from community donations towards the $7.1 million price tag for the expansion. The Municipality of Pictou County has contributed $45,000 and the town of New Glasgow has a 10 per cent commitment to cover the cost of the expansion. Angela CapobiancoOn March 4, a motion was put to council to sign a letter of support for the proposed expansion of the NGFM.

Russell said during the March 18 presentation that the letter of support council was asked to sign does not include a financial commitment and is to round out their proposal package for grant applications. “There’s nothing in there about finances, nothing,” Turner said, adding that council should vote on the project's merit, not concerns about whether they might be asked to decide on funding later. “They’re separate issues all together.”

In my estimation, the rates will probably have to double to have any chance of paying the operating cost. It has nothing to do with the initial cost,” Warden Parker said. “On behalf of tax-payers, we can’t sign that letter that says we support what was shown to us.”
