A registered massage therapist for over a decade, Gaines works part-time in Stewiacke while also managing her own business in Truro,"It was always in the back of my mind," said Gaines."Growing up, my grandma had arthritis, so I always helped her with her pain and massaged her feet and hands."
Cupping is a practice where a massage therapist will suction the skin to work the fascia to allow better circulation. Nick GainesAs a massage therapist, Gaines is trained in several different techniques, one of which is cupping. In this technique, she uses silicone cups to create a suction on the skin, lifting up the fascia to help the muscles circulate.
"You go after more of the fascia as opposed to more of the muscle itself," she explained."There's a lot more nerve endings in the fascia, so it helps with circulation."
