It’s San Antonio's biggest party of the year. Fiesta 2024 is grander than ever. News 4 goes in-depth, Fiesta style.San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture proudly unveiled a vibrant new addition to The Pass at Historic Market Square on Thursday called "The Echoes of Market Square" mural series.
Created by San Antonio artists Eva Marengo Sanchez and Mike Arguello, these large-scale artworks grace eight columns under I-35, transforming the space into a visual celebration of the area’s rich history and dynamic future.“This is by far the biggest project I’ve ever done, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to showcase San Antonio’s culture through public art,” shared Sanchez.
“The murals encompass over 30 panels, each one meticulously crafted to tell a unique story about Historic Market Square,” explained Krystal Jones, Director of the Department of Arts & Culture. “Eva and Mike’s dedication to research and community engagement, collaborating with tenants, visitors, and local businesses, has resulted in a truly special piece of public art that will greet visitors for years to come.
“My grandmother was a member of the Canary Islands Descendants Association,” revealed Mike Arguello. “Knowing that I have a personal connection to the families who first settled in San Antonio makes this project even more meaningful.”
