Microsoft today announced it will invest US$2.2 billion over the next four years to support Malaysia’s digital transformation. It is the largest investment ever made by Microsoft in Malaysia since it started its operations in the country 32 years ago.

Investments will be made in the form of building digital infrastructure, creating AI skills opportunities, establishing a National AI Center of Excellence, and improving the country's cyber security capabilities. It is expected to provide an opportunity to 200,000 individuals in Malaysia to improve their skills in artificial intelligence.

Microsoft's chairman and CEO Satya Nadella, who also attended the Microsoft Build: AI Day event in Kuala Lumpur today, emphasised the company's commitment to supporting the country's AI transformation for the benefit of all Malaysians. By investing in digital infrastructure and skill development, the company aims to empower local businesses, communities, and developers to leverage the latest technology for inclusive economic growth and innovation across the nation.

Meanwhile, minister of investment, trade & industry Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz highlighted Microsoft's longstanding presence in Malaysia as a testament to a robust partnership built on trust. He added that this partnership underscores the country's emergence as an attractive destination for tech investment, attributed to its well-established semiconductor ecosystem and compelling value proposition as a global starting point.
