An algae bloom a decade ago gave rise to an award-winning idea when Cape Town resident Johannes Bochdalofsky realised he could transform seaweed into an alternative fuel.
Bochdalofsky said he had seen a major algae bloom and thought:"It must be possible to make that useful somehow." He first conceptualised the idea of turning seaweed into fuel in 2015, but shelved it twice before pursuing the project during the height of the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020.South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
