Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced almost half a billion dollars in funding for elite athletes in the lead-up to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The Albanese government has announced almost $500 million in funding over two years for elite athletes ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

“This $283 million in new money, on top of the annual funding that we give, will make a significant difference over the next two years,” Mr Albanese said. Including the $102 million in annual grant funding, the announcement will bring the Albanese government’s total high-performance investment to $489 million over two years.

“The bottom line is I want to set up our youngest Australians for success at our own Olympic Games in Brisbane in 2032,” Mr Albanese said. Mr Albanese said he hoped the investment would help get children off their phones and into the pool or onto the sporting field.
