A New Jersey electrical contractor is paying $500,000 to a group of older job candidates to settle an age discrimination lawsuit, thein June over accusations the vice president of its New Jersey branch had engaged in age discriminatory recruiting and hiring practices since November 2020, the commission said.
The lawsuit was filed by the EEOC’s Philadelphia district office, which has jurisdiction over portions of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, portions of Ohio, and West Virginia. Federal law prohibits age discrimination in employment, including refusing to recruit or hire candidates because they are 40 or older.
The vice president also refused to hire multiple candidates age 40 and older, according to the EEOC complaint.
