Many houses along Reston’s abundant artificial lakes are designed to maximize water views. Fewer use a lake as the backdrop for attention-grabbing contemporary architecture. And fewer still trade kitschy “lake life” decor for a primary bedroom painted black, mirrored ceilings and bright red accents.
In two decades at the house, Jim said, the couple “slept in every bedroom” because of constant renovations. Every room was altered in some way, and, on the main level, a color scheme emerged. On the second level, the primary bedroom suite has a built-in bed on a raised platform, built-in cabinets painted black, arched windows with lake views, a seating area and stained-glass doors. The primary bathroom has a two-sink vanity, a toilet room that has its own sink and a steam shower that has red and white tile. A planked and angled mirror on the ceiling reflects light from large windows over a tub.
