The Gauteng Education department received more than 768 000 Grade 1 and 8 applications for 2025.

The extension follows the State Information Technology Agency’s upgrade of its Data Centre infrastructure, which resulted in a complete shutdown of all applications and equipment at SITA on the 8th of August.The department received more than 768 000 Grade 1 and 8 applications for admission to the 2025 academic year. This is an increase of more than 11 000 applications received in 2023 for the 2024 academic year.

Parents and guardians who have already applied to schools are reminded that certified copies of documents must be submitted to schools or uploaded before the cut-off date. Applicants who have uploaded or submitted fraudulent or invalid documents will forfeit the opportunity to receive placement offers.
